    coca cola was invented by john Pemberton, who was a pharmacist from Atlanta in 1886. the original recipe was made for curing headaches and fatigue as its original recipe also included cocaine. coca cola got its name from its ingredients, the coca leaf.  while difficult to pinpoint the exact date of marketing, the beverage was a major success in 1886. and in 1893, coca cola was officially trademarked. in 1892, the coca cola company was founded, and distribution happened, and bottling agreements was signed for coca cola to be sold outside of soda fountains. in the 1900s, bottle operations spread to Canada, Mexico, and Europe. now, coca cola is the leading beverage corporations dominating the markets with other beverages made under the coke name such as sprite, Fanta, Powerade, coke zero, etc.
